Dr. Moonisa Aslam Dervash, a young researcher from Kashmir, has been awarded the NESA Young Scientist Award 2024 for her exceptional contributions to Environmental Sciences.

The award, comprising a gold medal, certificate, memento, and citation, was presented during an international conference on “Advancements in Basic Science, Environmental Studies, and Traditional Medicine for Translational Drug Discovery and Development (TMT3D-2024)” held from November 21 to 23, 2024, at Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi.

Dr. Dervash, an alumna of the University of Kashmir (M.Sc., B.Ed.) and Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (Ph.D.), conducted postdoctoral research on the Nowgam wetland, funded by the ICSSR, Ministry of Education (2022-2024). Her work spans environmental monitoring, carbon sequestration, women empowerment, and public awareness through Vivedh Bharati, All India Radio, Srinagar.

With over 60 research articles, 8 books, and a decade-long role as an environmental expert on AIR-Srinagar’s “Soun Aoundh Pukk,” Dr. Dervash’s efforts in environmental conservation and media-driven mass awareness have earned her multiple accolades.

The award was presented by Prof. (Dr.) Panjab Singh (former ICAR DG), Prof. (Dr.) Kavita Shah (VC, Siddharth University), Prof. (Dr.) Altaf Ahmad (NESA President), and senior BHU officials. Her recognition is seen as a milestone for Jammu and Kashmir, highlighting the UT’s growing impact on national and global scientific progress.
