New Delhi, December 19, 2024: Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level security review meeting on Thursday to assess the situation in Jammu and Kashmir. The meeting, held in New Delhi, was attended by Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, senior officials from the Army, paramilitary forces, intelligence agencies, and the Ministry of Home Affairs.

During the meeting, Amit Shah emphasized the government’s commitment to achieving a “terror-free Jammu and Kashmir”. He lauded the coordinated efforts of security forces that have led to a significant decline in terrorist incidents, cross-border infiltration, and recruitment of local youths by terrorist outfits. He directed all security agencies to continue working synchronously, employing all available resources to eliminate terrorism from the region.

Amit Shah met with Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in a separate meeting. The discussions focused on the early restoration of statehood and involving the elected government in the fight against terrorism. Omar Abdullah reiterated the need for taking elected representatives into confidence to effectively combat militancy and ensure the well-being of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

The meetings took place on a day when five militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Kulgam district of south Kashmir. The operation, which started based on specific intelligence inputs, resulted in the elimination of five Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists, including a senior commander. Two Indian soldiers were also injured during the operation and have been evacuated for medical care8.
