Braving the intense cold wave gripping the region, the Christian community in Kashmir celebrated Christmas with great religious fervor and enthusiasm. Churches across the valley were beautifully decorated with electric lanterns and festive ornaments, creating a vibrant and joyous atmosphere.
The main celebration in Srinagar took place at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Lal Chowk. Men, women, and children from the Christian community gathered to participate in special prayers and celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.
The 127-year-old St. Luke’s Church in Dalgate was also abuzz with activity as devotees arrived early for prayers. The church, adorned with colorful lights and festive decorations, served as a focal point for the celebrations, reflecting the deep faith and traditions of the community.
A devotee at the Holy Family Catholic Church expressed hopes for peace, harmony, and prosperity in the valley. The community expressed gratitude for being able to celebrate the occasion freely, spreading the universal message of love and brotherhood associated with Christmas.
In addition to religious ceremonies, the spirit of Christmas was felt across Srinagar, with markets displaying festive goods and bakeries seeing a surge in demand for Christmas cakes and other delicacies.
Despite the biting cold, the celebrations brought warmth to the hearts of the faithful. Families gathered to exchange gifts, share meals, and sing Christmas carols, spreading cheer and joy throughout the day.
Authorities ensured tight security arrangements around churches to facilitate peaceful celebrations, while several non-Christian residents extended greetings to their Christian friends and neighbors, fostering a sense of communal harmony.
