U.S. President-elect Donald Trump renewed his offer to make Canada the 51st state of the United States just hours after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced his resignation on January 6, 2024.
Trudeau, who faced mounting pressure from his ruling Liberal Party due to declining popularity, stated that he would remain in office until a new leader was elected.
Trump’s proposal, which he has floated multiple times since his electoral victory in November, has sparked controversy and uncertainty in Canada.
The President-elect emphasized the potential benefits of such a merger, including eliminating tariffs and increasing security from foreign threats.
However, there has been little reaction from the Canadian side regarding this proposal.
