A wave of unexplained deaths has struck the remote village of Budhal in Rajouri, claiming 14 lives and leaving a child in critical condition. The government has confirmed that the deaths are not due to any known communicable disease, but rather, toxins found in samples tested by the prestigious CSIR-IITR.

The first incident occurred on December 7, 2024, when a family of seven fell ill after a community meal, resulting in five fatalities. Two more incidents followed, with three more deaths on December 12 and six children hospitalized on January 12, 2025.

In response, the government has taken swift action, deploying medical teams, organizing medical camps, and conducting door-to-door screenings. Health Minister Ms. Sakina Itoo and Chief Secretary Sh. Atal Dulloo have chaired multiple meetings with health authorities and experts to investigate the cause and provide necessary healthcare.

The Rajouri police have now formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the mysterious deaths. The investigation is ongoing, with efforts to uncover the source of the deadly toxins and bring those responsible to justice.

The government reassures the public that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure the safety and well-being of the villagers.
