A mysterious illness in Rajouri district, Jammu and Kashmir, has claimed 16 lives and affected 38 people since December 2024. The Indian Army has stepped in, offering the affected food, water, and shelter.
Locals expressed gratitude for the army’s help, calling it a lifeline during tough times. Despite efforts from medical teams and the State Health Department, the cause of the illness remains unknown. Authorities are conducting door-to-door checks and urging people not to panic.
In early December 2024, a mysterious disease emerged in Rajouri district, Jammu and Kashmir, leading to 16 deaths and affecting 38 others. As the outbreak unfolded, local authorities, health departments, and national medical experts began investigating the cause of the illness. Despite extensive efforts, the source of the disease remained unidentified.
Earlier on Saturday Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah has ordered the constitution of an Inter-Ministerial Team led by the Ministry of Home Affairs to visit the affected village to ascertain the causes of deaths in 3 incidents in the past six weeks in Jammu’s Rajouri district.
The team will consist of experts from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers and Ministry of Water Resources. It will also be assisted by experts from animal husbandry, food safety and forensic science labs.
