The call for statehood restoration resonated as the key takeaway of this year’s Republic Day celebrations, underscoring the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir for a return to self-governance and renewed political stability.

The 76th Republic Day was celebrated with patriotic fervor at the Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar, where Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary unfurled the National Flag and took the salute at an impressive parade by contingents of JKP, BSF, CRPF, JKAP, and other security forces.

Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Chief Minister underscored the longstanding demand for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood. Reiterating the central government’s prior commitments, he urged the Prime Minister and Home Minister to honor their promises, emphasizing that restoring statehood was essential for winning the trust of the people and ensuring stability in the region.

Choudhary assured the public that the present government, under Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, is steadfast in fulfilling the promises made during the election campaign. He highlighted the administration’s focus on safeguarding public interests and creating employment opportunities for the youth.

Reflecting on the significance of the Indian Constitution, Choudhary called secularism the foundation of the nation. He also invoked Mahatma Gandhi’s sentiments during the partition, noting how Jammu and Kashmir had stood as a beacon of peace and brotherhood.

Addressing the concerns of Kashmiri migrant Pandits, he announced that proactive measures are underway to ensure their dignified return to their homes. He also spoke about the government’s intensified efforts to curb the menace of drug abuse, urging the youth to steer clear of this social evil.

The event witnessed vibrant cultural performances by artists from the J&K Academy of Art, Culture, and Languages, alongside school and college students, who captivated the audience with patriotic songs and dances.

Choudhary also presented awards to winners of the best March Past and cultural programs. National Conference President Dr. Farooq Abdullah, legislators, senior officials, and a large number of citizens and students attended the event.

Earlier in the day, the Deputy Chief Minister visited the Balidan Stambh at Pratap Park to pay homage to the martyrs who made the ultimate sacrifice for the nation.
