New Delhi, February 8: In a historic political turnaround, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has stormed back to power in Delhi after 27 years, dealing a crushing defeat to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and leaving Congress completely irrelevant with a hat-trick of ducks—winning zero seats for the third consecutive election.

The BJP secured a landslide victory, winning 48 out of 70 seats, reclaiming dominance in the national capital. This marks the end of AAP’s decade-long rule, which saw Arvind Kejriwal as Chief Minister since 2013.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated the victory, stating,

“Delhi has chosen development and good governance. We will leave no stone unturned to fulfill the dreams of Delhiites.”

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which came to power in 2015 with a landslide (67/70 seats), suffered a humiliating loss, managing just 22 seats this time. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal lost his own seat in the New Delhi constituency to BJP’s Parvesh Verma, marking a major personal setback.

In a video statement, Kejriwal accepted defeat, saying,

“We respect the people’s mandate and hope BJP will work for Delhi’s welfare.”

The Congress Party failed to win a single seat for the third consecutive time, marking a hat-trick of electoral failures. The grand old party, once dominant in Delhi, has been completely sidelined.

Political analysts believe the BJP’s aggressive campaigning, focus on governance, and social welfare initiatives played a key role in this landslide victory.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) secured 22 out of 70 seats in the Delhi Assembly polls, with 14 of these constituencies having a significant presence of Muslim and Dalit electorates — traditionally the backbone of the party’s vote base. Despite a major setback in the national capital, the Dalit and Muslim communities once again played a crucial role in AAP’s performance.
