In a landmark move aimed at encouraging more professionalism and unity within the creative industry, professional photographers and wedding videographers from across the Kashmir Valley have come together to establish the Kashmir Photographer Association (KPA). The association was officially launched at a grand event held at a local hotel in Srinagar, attended by dozens of industry professionals, dignitaries, and media representatives.
The newly formed association aims to elevate the standards of photography and videography in Kashmir, provide a unified platform for professionals, and address the challenges faced by those in the field. The KPA elected its inaugural leadership team, with Khursheed Ahmad as President, Shahzad Salim as Vice President, and Sajad Hussain Lanker as General Secretary.
The event was graced by Qazi Mohammad Salman, a senior Indian Information Services (IIS) officer who recently assumed the role of Regional Director of the Press Information Bureau (PIB) and Director of News at Doordarshan Kendra (DDK), Srinagar. He shared the stage with Hilal Ahmad, Station House Officer of the local police station, as a special guest. Both dignitaries commended the photographers and videographers for their dedication to their craft and expressed optimism about the association’s potential to bring positive change to the industry.
In his address, Khursheed Ahmad, the Chairman, emphasized the importance of unity in the profession. “The need to work under one umbrella is a demand for professionalism. This association is not just a platform but a movement to ensure that every professional in this field is recognized, supported, and empowered,” he said.
Among the key initiatives announced was the introduction of an insurance policy tailored specifically for photographers and videographers, aimed at providing financial security and peace of mind.
Sajad Lanker, the General Secretary, highlighted the association’s broader goals in an exclusive talk with OnlyKashmir.in. “Our vision is to create a sustainable ecosystem where professionals can thrive. We plan to organize workshops, training sessions, and exhibitions to showcase the talent of Kashmir’s photographers and videographers on a global stage,” he said.
The event also served as a platform to honor the contributions of senior and veteran photographers from across the valley. Several of yesteryear’s prominent figures were felicitated for their enduring legacy and dedication to the craft.
The proceedings were led by Dr. Arsh Dar, an eminent speaker and moderator, who underscored the cultural and artistic significance of photography in documenting Kashmir’s rich heritage.
