Srinagar, Feb 12: The Department of Surgical Oncology at Fortis Cancer Institute, Fortis Mohali, has achieved another remarkable medical milestone by successfully performing a complex surgery for pancreatic cancer using the RAMPS (Radical Antegrade Modular Pancreatosplenectomy) procedure with Type 1 Portal Vein Reconstruction. The intricate surgery was conducted on a 62-year-old patient from Srinagar, who was suffering from advanced pancreatic body cancer complicated by Portal Vein Thrombosis (PVT).
The doctors shared details with Onlykashmir.in correspondent. The patient had been experiencing abdominal pain, loss of appetite, and significant weight loss for three months. After undergoing three cycles of chemotherapy in Srinagar without improvement, he sought treatment at Fortis Hospital Mohali under the care of Dr. Jitender Rohila, Consultant, GI Surgical Oncology and Robotic Surgeon.
Dr. Jitender Rohila and his team performed the complex procedure, which involved excising the tumor while reconstructing affected vascular structures. The patient recovered smoothly and was discharged six days after the surgery. He has since regained his health and resumed a normal life.
Highlighting the significance of the case, Dr. Rohila stated, “Such complex surgeries are conducted at only a few select hospitals in India. This successful intervention showcases the advanced capabilities of Fortis Cancer Institute, which emphasizes a multidisciplinary approach to cancer treatment.”
Fortis Cancer Institute is known for its cutting-edge treatments for gastrointestinal cancers, including Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC) and Pressurized Intra-Peritoneal Aerosol Chemotherapy (PIPAC), which enhance treatment effectiveness while reducing side effects.
