Tangmarg, Feb 15: Chaos unfolded in Tangmarg as a Haryana-registered XUV-300 was ambushed by a group of attackers, leaving five occupants—three men from Haryana and two women from South Kashmir—brutalized. The violence escalated when the assailants turned on the police, injuring a Head Constable before locals intervened to restore order.

Initial investigations reveal the attack was linked to a road rage incident in Srinagar, with multiple vehicles chasing the XUV-300 before the assault. However, authorities have categorically dismissed rumors of any unlawful or immoral activity involving the victims.

As misleading social media narratives spread, including claims of “outsiders caught with Kashmiri girls,” J&K Police has issued a stern warning against rumor-mongers, vowing strict legal action. They also praised locals for helping to defuse the tension.

With an FIR registered and an investigation underway, police urge the public to refrain from spreading fake news that could incite unrest.
