Srinagar, Feb 20 – Prof Azmat Alam Khan has been appointed as the new Registrar of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K). The appointment, effective for three years with the possibility of a two-year extension, was confirmed through SKUAST-K Order No. 98 (Est.) of 2025 dated 19.02.2025.
Prof Khan, a distinguished chief scientist, previously served as Associate Director Research and OSD to the Vice Chancellor at the university. Despite qualifying for the JKAS in 2001, he chose to pursue an academic and research career over administrative roles.
A seasoned academic, Prof Khan has held several key positions at SKUAST-K. He was the Co-Principal Investigator of the World Bank-funded National Agricultural Higher Education Project (NAHEP), which was recognized as one of the top three implemented projects in India. As the founding head of the Centre for Research on Poultry, he played a pivotal role in advancing poultry research and development in Kashmir, establishing critical infrastructure such as breeder farms and hatcheries.
An alumnus of SKUAST-K, Prof Khan holds a BVSc&AH degree and earned his Master’s and Doctorate from the Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Izatnagar. With over 500 publications, including 200 peer-reviewed research papers, he has guided 12 Masters and PhD students and led numerous externally funded projects.
Vice Chancellor Prof Nazir Ahmad Ganie congratulated Prof Khan, expressing confidence in his ability to strengthen academics and research at the university. Upon assuming charge, Prof Khan emphasized his commitment to transparency, speedy delivery, and collaborative efforts to elevate SKUAST-K to greater heights.
Prof Khan’s appointment marks a new chapter for SKUAST-K, with stakeholders hopeful for continued progress under his leadership.
