News Kashmir Weekly orchestrated a prestigious event today at Hotel Downtown, Little Persia, Srinagar, marking a landmark commemoration of Women’s Month and World Women’s Day. This grand occasion, supported exclusively by Jammu and Kashmir Bank as the banking sponsor and Fortis Hospital Mohali, underscored a collective commitment to advancing gender equality in Kashmir Valley.
Guided by the theme “Accelerating Action for Gender Parity,” the event was deftly moderated by Farzana Mumtaz, Editor-in-Chief of News Kashmir, and Rameez Makhdoomi, Content Editor of News Kashmir. Their stewardship nurtured an enriching dialogue on women’s empowerment, with participants passionately articulating the need for systemic change. Advocate Sana Khan, a distinguished legal figure, ensured the seamless flow of deliberations, lending gravitas to the proceedings.
The gathering drew an illustrious array of luminaries from diverse spheres. Among the honored attendees were Dr. GN Qasba, former SMC Commissioner and revered social advocate; Professor Shabnam Ara, National Award recipient and Dean of Students’ Welfare at Cluster University; Bilquis Mir, a globally acclaimed water sports athlete; and Anbreena Anjum, Executive Engineer at Water Works Jal Shakti Division, Srinagar. Mantasha Binti Rashid, Deputy Director of Rural Sanitation, graced the event as a guest of honor, amplifying its significance.

The constellation of notable figures continued with Saika Rashid, an engineer and celebrated calligraphy artist; Zehra Shafi, a prominent journalist with PTI; Munazah Kanwal, journalist; Mir Sabeen Gulrez, a rising voice in journalism; Sabhat Mir, a dedicated social rights advocate; Ambreen Nawaz, a trailblazing entrepreneur; Ishrat Tanki, a respected educationist; and Eliza Izhar, an insightful educator. Each contributed vibrant perspectives, enriching the discourse.
Further elevating the event was Bilal Bashir Bhat, Editor-in-Chief of Daily Srinagar Jang and Onlykashmir.in; Rizwan Geelani, a distinguished journalist with Greater Kashmir; Imran Naiku, a noted journalist with Gulistan News; Khursheed Qureshi, a veteran of the press; Imran Ali, a healthcare professional; Badrunissa Bhat, a renowned research scholar and Sufi artist; and Advocate Sharif, a prominent legal luminary. The event culminated in a powerful resolution: a unanimous pledge to establish a gender-just Jammu and Kashmir.
