Srinagar: The Pakistan Army handed over the bodies of two Kashmiri youth to the Indian Army at the Kaman Aman Setu in Uri sector today. The deceased, Yasir Hussain Shah of Busgran, Uri, and Asiya Bano of Kundi Barjala, Uri, had tragically drowned in the Jhelum River on March 5, 2025.
Following their disappearance, the District Administration sought the assistance of the Indian Army, which, along with MARCOS, launched an extensive search operation. After relentless efforts, the body of Yasir Hussain Shah was spotted on March 20, 2025, in the Jhelum River. However, due to strong currents, it drifted across the Line of Control (LoC) into the Chakothi sector of Pakistan-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (POJK).
Recognizing the need for humanitarian cooperation, the Indian Army coordinated with Pakistani authorities to retrieve the mortal remains. On March 22, 2025, Pakistani officials formally handed over the bodies of both youth to the Indian Army, ensuring their dignified return to their families.
The bereaved families expressed their deep gratitude to the Indian Army for their prompt response and dedicated efforts in securing the return of their loved ones. The handover marks a rare instance of cross-border cooperation and underscores the importance of humanitarian efforts beyond political differences.
