A region that has been mired in political conflict for decades and is now striving toward peace, any act of violence there shakes the very conscience of society. The heart-wrenching terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam has once again plunged those Kashmiris into a sea of grief who yearn for peace and a return to normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir.

Political analysts and social leaders believe this attack was deliberately aimed at tarnishing Kashmir’s emerging positive image at a time when the Valley is gradually moving toward progress and peace. The intent behind such acts, they say, is to disrupt this momentum and rekindle an atmosphere of fear.

However, the public’s reaction to the attack has sent a clear message: the people of Jammu and Kashmir now reject violence and stand firmly in support of peace. Candlelight rallies held in Srinagar, Baramulla, Kupwara, and other areas of the Valley have conveyed to the entire nation that the people of the region condemn terrorism and violence.

These peaceful demonstrations were not just expressions of grief and mourning, they reflected the strong collective resolve of the public not to let peace be destroyed under any circumstances. The youth, elders, students, and traders holding candles symbolized the unity that exists in the Valley for the cause of peace.

It is significant that while Jammu and Kashmir is often viewed through the lens of religious identity, such protests serve as proof that the people of this region are united in favor of peace, rising above their differences. Whether in Jammu or Kashmir, the message is one: a few miscreants cannot shake our determination.

While peaceful protests symbolize public awareness, it is now time to turn these sentiments into concrete action. Every individual in society must act responsibly, not only against physical violence but also against narratives that spread hatred and division. The media, local leaders, and social media users must thwart any effort to harm social harmony.

The peace that has begun to take root in Jammu and Kashmir is vital and must be preserved at all costs. The people of this region simply aspire to a peaceful life so they can dream of a better future for their children.

These candlelight protests are not merely acts of resistance, they are proof that the conscience of the Valley is awake and that everyone stands for peace, no matter the circumstances. This is not a moment of despair but a time to renew our pledge: the people of Jammu and Kashmir will not bow before fear and will always choose unity, courage, and light over hatred.
