Speaking at a concluding event of an agricultural campaign in South Kashmir, he affirmed full support for development initiatives and called on the concerned minister to prioritize implementation of crop insurance for horticulture, acknowledging it as a long-pending demand.
He praised the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP) for revolutionizing the sector, citing increases in mustard cultivation, trout production, and beekeeping. The region’s cold storage capacity has doubled, milk processing capacity has expanded sixfold, and agri-trade through mandis has reached ₹1,050 crore.
Over 13 lakh farmer families are directly receiving benefits under PM-Kisan. The LG also highlighted special focus on tribal farmers and applauded youth participation in agri-entrepreneurship.

Meanwhile, the LG visited the home of a local civilian who was killed while trying to protect tourists during a recent terror attack. He personally handed a government job appointment letter to the martyr’s widow, underscoring the administration’s commitment to support the families of victims. The act was widely seen as a gesture of solidarity and gratitude for bravery in the face of terror.
In another major development, the LG announced the reopening of 16 tourist destinations across Jammu and Kashmir, including Betab Valley, Verinag, and Kokernag, closed earlier due to security concerns. The move is seen as part of broader efforts to revive tourism ahead of the upcoming Amarnath Yatra. He urged the public to support and contribute to the pilgrimage, calling it “the people’s Yatra,” and stressed the comprehensive security and infrastructure preparedness in place.
