Awantipora: In a jaw-dropping incident that exposes the crumbling state of healthcare infrastructure, a local resident was left stunned after visiting the Awantipora Primary Health Center this evening night, only to discover the facility lacked a functioning thermometer, manual or digital, to check for fever.
The incident, which occurred around 9:00 PM, has sparked outrage and raised urgent questions about the state of essential medical services in our community.
The patient, a renowned activist Nadia Rashid while talking with Onlykashmir.in said “seeking treatment for a suspected fever, I was examined by the on-duty medical professional, who prescribed medications but shockingly informed them that no thermometer was available to confirm their condition,” adding the more shocking was when I went to purchase Thermometer in house pharmacy in Primary Health Center, the person other side of the counter had no idea about digital thermometer.

In a baffling response, the staff reportedly dismissed the patient’s concerns, insisting they did not have a fever and advising them to purchase a thermometer themselves. Determined to get answers, the patient visited a nearby pharmacy, where their temperature was recorded at an alarming 102°F, confirming the fever the health center had failed to diagnose.
“This is unacceptable,” said the patient, a concerned local. “If a primary health center can’t even provide a thermometer, what does that say about the state of our healthcare system? People, especially students and those without access to private care, rely on these facilities. This negligence puts lives at risk.”
As this story unfolds, it serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for reform in our healthcare system. Authorities must act now to restore trust and ensure that no patient is turned away without proper care. The health and well-being of our community hang in the balance.
