Karbala is not merely a battle, it is an eternal message. A message that reminds us that to rise for truth is not only an act of worship, but also a religious, moral, and human duty. And the most important lesson it teaches is this: when falsehood stands before you, resistance becomes an obligation, even if that falsehood is embodied in someone close, powerful, or holding a great position.
Imam Hussain’sع refusal to pledge allegiance was not merely a political move; it was a principled declaration، that religion cannot be mortgaged in the bargain for power. Yazid was the self-proclaimed caliph of the time, backed by armies, government, wealth, and force. Imam Hussainع on the other hand, had no army, no kingdom. But he possessed the power of conscience, the strength of truth, and the resolve to sacrifice.
Karbala taught us that remaining silent before oppressive forces drunk on power is in fact siding with tyranny. The greatest lesson of Karbala is that falsehood and oppression become powerful only when the people of truth remain silent.
Imam Hussain ع showed us that if one has the courage to stand firm upon the truth, even solitude turns into a battalion. If the intention is pure and the cause is just, then sacrifice becomes not a momentary defeat, but an everlasting victory.
He also taught us that it is not personalities, but principles that are sacred. If a ruler, a party, or an ideology deviates from the path of truth, then to confront it, not to submit, is the true mark of faith and dignity.
Looking at the world today, we find that Yazidism is not just a chapter of history, it still surrounds us in many forms. Injustice in some places, suppression of free expression in others, hatred in the name of religion, and the silencing of the oppressed through brute power. In such times, the message of Imam Hussainع questions us: Are we standing with the truth, or are we merely silent spectators?
Mourning processions, rituals, and commemorative gatherings have their significance. But if we confine Imam Hussain’sع message only to rituals, we distance ourselves from the true purpose of Karbala.
We must remember Karbala whenever we witness injustice, whenever truth knocks at the door of our conscience, and whenever any force of falsehood dares to raise its head in society.
