In a sharp rebuke to sections of the Indian media, Kashmiri Islamic scholar and researcher Maulana Waseem Reza Qomi has condemned the recent publication and telecast of material deemed disrespectful to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei. Terming the move as “part of a Zionist conspiracy,” Maulana Qomi said such attempts reflect the desperation of global adversaries in the wake of Iran’s recent military engagement with Israel.

Speaking from Qom, Iran, where he is currently enrolled at the Al-Mustafa(S) International University of Howza Elmia Qom, Maulana Waseem Reza issued a statement criticising what he described as “deliberate and calculated psychological warfare” targeting religious sentiments and revered personalities.

“The post-war climate has rattled the enemies of Iran, and in their state of frustration, they’ve resorted to misinformation campaigns and character attacks. This blasphemous media content is not journalism it’s propaganda meant to alienate the public from divine leadership,” he stated.

Maulana Qomi asserted that disrespecting the Supreme Leader is not a mere act of political dissent but a deeper assault on the values and collective spiritual conscience of the Muslim world.

“For us, the honour of our Leader is not symbolic it is sacred. Attempts to vilify Ayatollah Khamenei only strengthen our unity and resolve,” he said.

He also drew attention to the broader global context, particularly the rising challenges of drug trafficking, terrorism, and poverty, suggesting that Iran’s hardliner stance on narcotics is one reason it continues to face hostility from international lobbies.

“Iran’s anti-drug laws are some of the strictest in the world, including capital punishment. These policies protect society but also put Iran at odds with global narcotics networks,” he added.

Quoting the classical Arabic proverb “Al-fadhlu ma shahida bihi al-a‘da’”

(“True merit is what even enemies acknowledge”)

Maulana Waseem Reza Kashmiri pointed out that even critics of Iran have, at times, conceded the moral authority and personal integrity of Ayatollah Khamenei.

“His clarity, courage, simplicity, wisdom, and deep moral conviction are known even to those who oppose him. The media’s current attempts to malign him will not erase that truth.”

Maulana Qomi also took aim at the state of Indian journalism, warning that under the guise of free speech, certain media platforms are increasingly being used to stoke division and propagate hate speech.

By broadcasting fabricated and false reports, these people are tarnishing the reputation of the country and this profession.

Journalism is meant to inform and elevate public consciousness, not insult sacred figures or foment sectarianism. What we’re witnessing today is a distortion of the profession’s ethical foundation,” he said.

Calling for accountability, the scholar demanded a formal apology from the outlets responsible and urged them to respect religious boundaries in public discourse.

“Let it be clear: any insult to the Supreme Leader or the religious leadership is not a personal affront it’s an ideological attack on the Ummah’s identity and leadership.”

In closing, Maulana Waseem Reza Qomi appealed to the people of Jammu & Kashmir to uphold communal harmony and continue fostering interfaith dialogue, despite provocations
