SRINAGAR, July 31 – The Jammu & Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI) hosted ‘Innovate J&K: Dialogue for a Startup-Driven Future’ at its Sempora, Pampore campus, drawing over 100 startups, students, and entrepreneurs from across the Union Territory.
The event featured Khair Ull Nissa Sheikh, Executive Director of Alson Motors and Principal Advisor at World Trade Centre India Services, and Arjimand Hussain Wani, noted Development Economist and International Policy Analyst, as key speakers.
Khalid Jahangir, Secretary Industries & Commerce and Director JKEDI, emphasized the region’s deep-rooted entrepreneurial culture and the need to channel it toward innovation and scalable, tech-driven businesses. He reiterated JKEDI’s focus on mentorship as a key pillar of the J&K Startup Policy.
Khair Ull Nissa Sheikh highlighted decision-making under uncertainty, the importance of discipline, and urged startups to align with the “Four Hs” — Handicrafts, Horticulture & Agriculture, Hospitality, Healthcare — and follow the “Three Ds” — Discipline, Dedication, Delayed Gratification.
Arjimand Hussain Wani discussed global job trends, stressing that 39% of core skills will change by 2030. He encouraged startups to integrate scenario planning and prepare for opportunities in green tech, AI, and the care economy.
The day concluded with one-on-one mentorship sessions where selected startups received personalized guidance. Participants praised the dialogue for its practical insights.
JKEDI also announced upcoming Idea Challenge Competitions in schools and colleges to spark early innovation.
