Jammu: In a startling revelation, social activist Rahul Sharma has sounded alarm bells over what he calls a “Red Cross Crisis” in Jammu and Kashmir. In an open letter to the Lieutenant Governor, who also serves as President of the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) J&K, Sharma has accused the society of failing to conduct its most crucial fundraising activities for two consecutive years.

According to Sharma, the non-sale of Red Cross tickets in schools, government departments, and among the public, along with the cancellation of the annual Red Cross Mela in Jammu and Lucky Bag Draw in Kashmir, has caused a staggering loss of nearly ₹2 crore.

He warns that this financial blow has crippled the IRCS’s ability to deliver disaster relief, health services, and community welfare programs.

“The people of J&K, who depend on Red Cross aid, are the worst sufferers. Transparency and accountability in the organization have been completely compromised,” Sharma wrote in his hard-hitting letter.

He has demanded an urgent probe, immediate resumption of the ticket sales and fundraising events, and strong directives to restore public faith in the Red Cross operations.
