Tel Aviv: Tens of thousands of Israeli reservists are reporting for duty as Israel moves to seize Gaza City. Last month, Israel’s security cabinet approved the expansion of its nearly two-year-long military campaign in Gaza.
Currently, Israeli forces control about 75% of the Gaza Strip. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, addressing IDF (Israel Defense Forces) soldiers, stated that what began in Gaza must also end there.
Meanwhile, IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir urged politicians to reach a ceasefire agreement with Hamas. Speaking to reservists at a military base, he said the army is committed to achieving a decisive victory and will not stop the war until that goal is met.
Ceasefire negotiations with Hamas collapsed in July. Out of the 48 hostages still in captivity, Israeli authorities believe that 20 are alive.
Meanwhile, a new update released by the Palestinian Ministry of Health on Tuesday put the number of those killed in Gaza during the war at 60,034 people, ranging from a newborn baby to a 110-year-old. Of those, 18,592 or 30.8% were under 18.
