Jammu, Sept 7: The National Sikh Front has condemned Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Mehraj Malik of Doda for what it called “unparliamentary” conduct and personal attacks against Deputy Commissioner (DC) Harvinder Singh.

In a statement, NSF Chairman S. Varinderjeet Singh criticized Malik for lodging an FIR against the DC and making disparaging remarks on social media. He said such behavior undermines the dignity of legislative institutions.

“It is disheartening to see an elected representative airing grievances on social media without following due process. Such actions set a poor precedent for governance,” Singh said, urging the MLA to approach the Speaker, Chief Minister, or concerned Minister instead of resorting to public outbursts.

The NSF Chairman also objected to the MLA’s use of harsh language, calling it unbecoming of a public servant. “Criticism is welcome in democracy, but it must be fact-based and respectful,” he added.

The Sikh body appealed to all elected representatives to maintain civility in discourse and focus on people’s welfare rather than theatrics.

The controversy erupted after Malik shifted a local health centre in Kencha village from a damaged building to another private premises. The move, live-streamed on Facebook on September 5, triggered objections from a Congress activist, who argued that the facility had already been sanctioned for relocation elsewhere. Heated exchanges followed, leading to police and administration intervention.

Malik later accused the administration of siding with the Congress and used harsh words against DC Harvinder Singh, alleging corruption and bias. A video of his remarks has since gone viral, drawing over two million views.
