In a major humanitarian initiative, the High-range Rural Development Society (HRDS India) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Divisional Commissioners of Jammu and Kashmir to provide free houses to families affected by Operation Sindoor, recent floods, and terror violence in the Union Territory.
The MoU signing ceremony, presided over by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha at Raj Bhawan, reflects his vision of empowering and safeguarding the future of those who have suffered due to natural calamities, enemy shelling, and terrorism.
As part of the project, HRDS India will construct 1,500 three-bedroom “Smart Houses” equipped with modern features to ensure comfort, safety, and digital connectivity. The initiative also includes 15-year life insurance coverage for all family members, monthly health check-ups, and free internet access in collaboration with BSNL to support education and communication needs.
LG Sinha, while appreciating the noble endeavour, said:
“Construction of houses is more than just putting up structures. It is about building dreams, offering a fresh start, and opening a new chapter in the lives of affected families. Though human losses are immeasurable, this initiative will ease their suffering.”
Under the scheme, terror victim families whose houses were destroyed will also be identified and provided assistance. HRDS India has further committed to repainting each house every five years and conducting monthly awareness sessions on health, education, hygiene, and government welfare schemes through trained volunteers.
Present on the occasion were Dr. Mandeep K. Bhandari, Principal Secretary to the LG; Ramesh Kumar, Divisional Commissioner Jammu; Anshul Garg, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir; Aji Krishnan, Founder-Secretary HRDS India; Saritha P. Menon, Administrator HRDS India; Swaraj Kumar G., Director Corporate Sponsorship; and Sanjeev Bhatnagar, Chairman Global Initiatives, HRDS India.
