At least 19 high school students were killed and more than 20 others injured in a deadly airstrike carried out by Myanmar’s military in Rakhine State, according to local media reports.
The late-night attack struck two private boarding schools where students aged 15 to 21 were sleeping. Myanmar Now, a Yangon-based news outlet, reported that a military warplane dropped two 500-pound bombs, resulting in severe destruction to the schools and nearby homes.
The targeted area is under the control of the Arakan Army, a rebel group currently engaged in conflict with the military junta.The UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) condemned the strike, calling it a brutal attack on children and civilians and warning of the growing humanitarian toll amid ongoing conflict.
