Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday flagged off the first dedicated Parcel Train from Budgam to Adarsh Nagar, New Delhi. He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for ushering in a new era of trade for apple growers, saying the service will cut transit time, boost income opportunities, and strengthen the Valley’s agricultural economy.
The LG said the daily freight service will ensure safe transport of apples and other perishables, reducing losses caused by highway disruptions. The eight-coach train, with a capacity of 180 tonnes, allows both full van and small consignments booking. Departing Budgam at 6:15 a.m., it halts at Bari Brahmana and reaches Delhi by 5:30 a.m. the next day.
Senior officials from Railways, Civil, and Police administrations attended the launch.
Meanwhile, a delegation of Kashmir Valley Fruit Growers Cum Dealers Union led by its Chairman Bashir Ahmad Basheer called on Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, today.
The members of the delegation expressed their gratitude to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha for the new Parcel Train from Budgam to Adarsh Nagar, New Delhi. They also put forth various welfare issues of fruit growers and traders from the valley including smooth movement of fruit-laden trucks on National Highway-44 and 10-tyre trucks on Mughal Road.
