The world is currently passing through a very delicate phase. Ongoing wars in various regions, humanitarian crises, the rising number of refugees, and declining confidence in global leadership raise the question of whether the institution established after World War II to maintain global peace has now become limited to statements and formal meetings.

The UN Charter clearly assigns the responsibility of maintaining international peace and security. Yet current crises, from Ukraine to Palestine, Sudan, and Myanmar, show that the organization often resorts to neutrality or silence, neglecting the protection of human lives and social stability.

It is now time for the UN to go beyond mere statements and take concrete action. It must prioritize the protection of human lives, immediate intervention in crisis-hit regions, and the welfare of refugees, transcending the political interests of powerful nations. Remaining an institution that only observes and issues statements not only endangers lives but also undermines its global credibility and relevance.

The 80th General Assembly has the opportunity to demonstrate its true purpose, maintaining global peace, safeguarding human lives, and ensuring social stability, through practical measures. Failure to act and remaining limited to discussions and statements would diminish the UN’s effectiveness, prestige, and trust worldwide.

Now is the time for the UN to act in accordance with its Charter and prove that it is the true guardian of world peace.
