Shopian, Oct 22: Acting with lightning speed, Shopian Police rescued an 11-year-old kidnapped girl within hours after receiving a WhatsApp complaint from her family and arrested the accused kidnapper.
The incident came to light when the brother of the minor girl from Chitragam Zainapora informed the Zainapora Police Station via WhatsApp that his sister had gone missing around 2 PM. Responding immediately, police registered e-FIR No. 91/2025 under Section 137(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and launched an intense manhunt.
Through technical surveillance and coordinated efforts, the police traced the girl to District Kulgam, where she was rescued safely. The accused, identified as Showkat Ahmad Sheikh of Gund Chal Kulgam, was apprehended on the spot.
SSP Shopian Mushtaq Ahmad Choudhary (JKPS) hailed the swift action of his team and urged parents to remain vigilant regarding their children’s whereabouts and online interactions. He also appealed to the public to report any suspicious movement or disappearance immediately to the nearest police station or PCR Shopian (9596768831).
