The 69th National School Games in Wushu were officially inaugurated today at the Indoor Sports Complex, Wazir Bagh Srinagar. Organized by the Directorate of Youth Services and Sports (YSS) J&K under the aegis of the School Games Federation of India, the event features under-17 boys and girls from across the country.
Qazi Salman, Director PIB and RNU Doordarshan Kendra Srinagar, presided as Chief Guest. He lauded the Directorate’s efforts, calling sports “a catalyst for holistic development” and appreciated PIB and Doordarshan’s role in promoting such events.
The championship features 41 teams from various states, UTs, and organizations, and will conclude on November 1, 2025.
In a telephonic message, Anuradha Gupta, Director General YSS, congratulated the organizers and participants, noting the Directorate’s continued excellence following the U-19 Boys Football Nationals. She announced that the department will soon host School Nationals in Table Tennis and Taekwondo, further strengthening J&K’s sporting reputation.
Organising Secretary Ghulam Hassan Lone welcomed the teams, highlighting the event’s importance for local athletes. Azhar Hajini, Convenor Media & Publicity Committee, anchored the proceedings and delivered the vote of thanks, urging media houses to widely cover the event.
The ceremony also saw the presence of Guests of Honour Kuldeep Handoo, India Chief Coach and CEO J&K Wushu Association, and Ajay Singh Chandel, SGFI Field Official, along with Balbir Singh Sodhi, Assistant Director YSS Kashmir.
A colorful march-past, Wushu demonstrations, and the sports oath added to the spectacle. All matches are being streamed live on the official social media handles of YSS J&K. The Directorate will next host National School Games in Table Tennis and Taekwondo in November at Jammu.
