Kupwara: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday assured the people that all the promises of the National Conference will be fulfilled before the next elections. He said his party is determined to restore the voice of Jammu and Kashmir in Parliament and ensure justice in the government.
Addressing a public gathering in Handwara, Omar said, “We will fulfill all the promises made before the elections last September. Only after fulfilling them will we regain your trust.” He vowed to strengthen representation, improve society and focus on employment opportunities.
He congratulated senior party leader Chaudhary Ramzan on his victory in the recent Rajya Sabha elections, calling him the best choice to represent Jammu and Kashmir. “Ramzan was our best option. We needed a strong voice who would represent the will of the people, fight for rights and remind the Centre about the situation in Kashmir.”
“There will be three NC candidates who will raise the silent voices in Delhi after 2022,” Omar said. He said the Centre needs to be reminded of the restoration of statehood and constitutional guarantees in Parliament. In the November session, the MLAs passed a resolution to restore special status, which reflects the collective will of the people. The CM accused the Centre of violating the promise of restoring statehood. “Promises are unfulfilled, we will continue to raise this demand on every platform.”
He criticised former MPs for saying their voices were lost in Delhi, while North Kashmir, especially Handwara, had been ignored in the Assembly and Parliament since 2014. The current Baramulla MP attends sessions without court permission and is away from the constituency. Omar promised that Handwara would be given district status when the state is restored, drawing applause from the audience.
He welcomed former People’s Conference leader Ashiq Neelam, an influential figure in Kupwara and north Kashmir, to join the NC. “His joining will strengthen the party and benefit the people,” he said, adding that despite incitement from opponents, the party is focused on promises and public trust.
