Year-long celebrations begin to mark 150 years of ‘Vande Mataram’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a commemorative ceremony to mark the 150th anniversary of the national song ‘Vande Mataram’ and also released a commemorative coin and postage stamp on the occasion.
In his address, the Prime Minister said that ‘Vande Mataram’ is not just words but a mantra, energy, dream and determination that reflects devotion and spiritual passion towards Mother India. He said that this song is the epitome of India’s eternal spirit and timeless ideology, which connects us with the past and fills us with confidence for the future. He said
that during the colonial era, this song became a slogan of freedom, which inspired enthusiasm in the heart of every revolutionary. According to him, “Vande Mataram was the voice of India’s freedom struggle, and even today this passion teaches us a lesson to protect our freedom.”
The Prime Minister said that this creation of Bankam Chandra Chatterjee became a light in the darkness of slavery, which showed the dream of a prosperous and self-reliant India. He said that the first line of Vande Mataram, “Sajjam Siflam Mataram”, is a tribute to Mother India, adorned with the divine blessings of nature.
He said that whenever the tricolour is hoisted, this slogan naturally rises from the heart of every Indian — Bharat Mata Ki Jai! Vande Mataram!
The Prime Minister stressed that the message of Vande Mataram includes self-confidence, national pride and the determination of women to lead. He said that today’s India is on the path of knowledge, science, technology and self-reliance.
In conclusion, the Prime Minister said that the mantra of Vande Mataram will continue to guide us towards a developed India.
Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Vinay Kumar Saxena and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion.
