Srinagar, November 13: The UT-Level Cricket Tournament organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports (YSS), Jammu and Kashmir, concluded on Thursday with an exciting final match at BHSS Bijbehara. In a thrilling contest, District Kulgam emerged victorious over District Kupwara by just one wicket to lift the championship title.
The valedictory ceremony was graced by Dr. Bashir Ahmad Veeri as the Chief Guest, who applauded the enthusiasm and sportsmanship of the young cricketers. He appreciated the YSS Department for providing a dynamic platform that allows youth from across the Union Territory to display their sporting talent.
Batting first after winning the toss, Kupwara set a competitive target of 148 runs in the allotted 20 overs. Shakir’s 37-run knock and a steady 27-run contribution were the highlights of their innings. For Kulgam, Suhaib bowled an excellent spell, taking four crucial wickets that restricted Kupwara from posting a bigger total.
In response, Kulgam showed great composure under pressure. Yasir top-scored with 34 runs, while Faiz Padder’s unbeaten 28-run innings proved decisive in sealing a dramatic one-wicket victory. For his all-round performance, Faiz was declared the Man of the Match.
The final was officiated by umpires Mehraj Sheikh and Shahid Hussain, with Tufail Ahmad as scorer. The event was smoothly coordinated under the supervision of Assistant Convenor Mohammad Ashraf and Convenor Mohammad Abass Dar.
The tournament concluded amid loud applause and celebration, with the Chief Guest presenting trophies and awards to the winners, runners-up, and standout performers. The event marked yet another successful initiative by the Department of Youth Services and Sports to promote grassroots cricket talent across Jammu and Kashmir.
