Patna/ The results of the Bihar assembly elections have once again put the NDA in the spotlight in the state. The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) achieved a resounding victory by winning 202 out of 243 seats, with Nitish Kumar almost certain to become the Chief Minister for the fifth time.

The elections, which were held in two phases on November 6 and 11, saw a record 66.91% voter turnout. The NDA campaigned on slogans like development, good governance and social justice, which benefited them greatly. Prime Minister Narendra Modi called the mandate a “victory for public welfare”.

On the other hand, the grand alliance comprising the RJD and the Congress could win only 41 seats. The RJD finished third for the first time since 2010, while the Congress also suffered a major loss.

A major development in the elections was the better-than-expected performance of Prashant Kishor’s Jan Swaraj Party, while Chirag Paswan’s Lok Jan Shakti Party (Ram Vilas) registered a staggering 1,800 percent increase in seats. According to observers, the shifting caste balance and strong support from women voters kept the NDA in the lead.
