Explosion at Nowgam Police Station Leaves 9 Dead, 20 Injured

 A powerful explosion inside the Nowgam Police Station in Jammu & Kashmir on Friday late night left at least 29 people injured, nine of whom later succumbed to their wounds.

The blast occurred while police officers and an FSL team were inspecting confiscated explosive material within the premises. The explosion also damaged several vehicles parked inside the compound.

Fire tenders rushed to the scene immediately after the incident, and all roads leading to the police station were sealed off.

Ambulances and senior police officials hurried to the site, with authorities fearing that the casualty count may rise. According to police, this was not a terror attack but an accidental explosion involving previously seized explosives during inspection.

Following the deadly blast, a large-scale rescue operation was launched at the Nowgam Police Station. Jammu & Kashmir Police, Fire Brigade units, and paramilitary forces are present at the site. Officials believe the number of injured may exceed eight. The wounded are being shifted to the Indian Army’s 92 Base Hospital and SKIMS for emergency treatment. Several surrounding buildings and vehicles also suffered damage in the explosion.

Multiple vehicles within the police station compound were destroyed. Numerous fire tenders were deployed immediately after the explosion, and all access roads remain closed.
