A devastating accident on Monday, November 17, 2025, near the outskirts of Madinah has plunged India and the wider Muslim world into deep grief. Forty-five Indian pilgrims travelling in Saudi Arabia were killed when their bus met with a fatal crash approximately 25 kilometres before reaching Madinah.
According to official sources, the bus was carrying a total of 46 passengers, of whom only one miraculously survived and is currently under treatment.
Preliminary reports suggest that the bus driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to collide with a high-speed diesel tanker. Tragically, most passengers were asleep at the time, leaving them with no chance to react or escape.
Information received indicates that the diesel tanker was travelling at around 140 km/h, while the bus was moving at 120 km/h. Despite the wide expanse of the highway, the collision was so severe that the bus was completely destroyed.
The Makkah–Madinah expressway is an eight-lane high-speed route, with speed limits of 140 km/h for small vehicles and 120 km/h for buses. Yet this tragic incident once again highlights how even a moment’s lapse at high speed can lead to catastrophic consequences.
The accident has left countless hearts shattered, as authorities are engaged in identifying the deceased and reaching out to their families. Messages of condolence and sympathy have been pouring in from across the world.
