South Africa refuses to give US G20 presidency
South Africa has made it clear that it will not hand over the G20 presidency to a US representative who is not fit for the occasion, after President Donald Trump refused to attend the summit in Johannesburg this weekend.
Foreign Minister Ronald Lamola said the US would have to send a representative of the appropriate level and that if Washington did not send a senior representative, the presidency could be handed over later between counterparts in the respective governments’ offices.
