Srinagar Programme Spotlights Gender Inclusion Equal Opportunity and Workplace Wellbeing

The Women Studies Centre of the Government College of Education GCoE IASE Srinagar, in partnership with the Indian Audit and Accounts Department JandK Srinagar, hosted a daylong Awareness Programme titled Women’s NGO on Inclusive Workplace Practices Gender Inclusivity Equal Opportunities and Workplace Wellbeing. The initiative sought to deepen understanding of gender responsive workplaces and to foreground the legal social and institutional safeguards that enable a healthy and equitable professional environment.

Principal Prof Seema Naz reflected on the centrality of women’s empowerment and the responsibility of academic institutions to nurture cultures that uphold fairness, dignity and equal access. She noted that genuine progress in professional spaces rests on sustained commitment to gender equity.

General Manager District Industries Centre Ganderbal Dr Mantasha Binti Rashid offered a detailed examination of structural reforms policy interventions and capacity building measures essential for creating environments where women can participate with confidence and contribute fully to economic life.

Director EMMRC University of Kashmir Prof Salima Jan underscored the power of media and communication in shaping public perceptions about gender roles and workplace ethics. She argued that responsible storytelling has the potential to shift societal attitudes and promote more inclusive professional cultures.

The President of Soroptimist International Kashmir highlighted global frameworks for advancing women’s rights and described how international networks strengthen local efforts in education empowerment and leadership development.

Legal experts presented a comprehensive account of statutory protections available to women workers including safeguards against workplace harassment maternity related entitlements and the right to equitable remuneration. They also illuminated the challenges encountered by transgender individuals and emphasized the transformative role of education in their empowerment.

The Coordinator at the Centre for Women Studies and Research University of Kashmir discussed gender sensitization as an essential tool for cultivating empathy and institutional fairness. She called for regular training programmes and deliberate policy action to embed equality in organisational functioning.

The Coordinator WSC examined the achievements and ongoing hurdles faced by women in higher education and reiterated the need for robust institutional mechanisms including ICCs and grievance redressal platforms.

Deputy Accountant General Administration A and E commended the joint endeavour and affirmed that widespread decentralised awareness initiatives are vital for ensuring that gender inclusivity becomes a natural embedded practice across workplaces and sectors.
