Srinagar, Nov 26: The Jammu and Kashmir Pensioners Welfare Federation and Senior Citizens convened an important meeting on Wednesday at Ahata Veqar, Chanapora, bringing together district presidents from across the Kashmir Division along with senior office bearers, representatives of the Kashmir Arts Emporium, and the chairman of the J&K Industries Pensioners Welfare Association.

The session was presided over by Abdul Gani Parray, District President of Srinagar.

The meeting opened on a solemn note as Secretary General Mir Mohammad Ashraf moved a condolence resolution mourning the passing of a close relative of Mir Nisar Ali, State President of the Federation. Members stood in two minutes of silence to honour the departed soul.

In its proceedings, the House unanimously endorsed two major resolutions urging swift government intervention. The Federation reiterated its long-pending demand for the immediate release of the 18 percent Dearness Allowance arrears due to pensioners.

It further pressed for a revision of the monthly Medical Allowance from the current ₹300 to ₹1,000, noting that escalating healthcare costs have left retired employees struggling to manage basic medical needs.

Members emphasized that both measures are essential to easing the financial burden on pensioners, many of whom rely solely on fixed incomes amid rising inflation. The Federation called upon the government to act without delay, stressing that a dignified post-retirement life is a right, not a privilege.
