Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived at the Palam Air Base in Delhi this evening, his first visit to India in four years. He was received with traditional enthusiasm by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The two-day official visit and the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit are a key opportunity to strengthen ties in defence, energy and trade, taking place amid global geopolitical tensions.
The golden glow of the sunrise on the occasion of his arrival highlighted the close relationship between the leaderships. Modi, who hosted a private dinner for Putin in Moscow this year, will also invite him for personal talks tonight, while the formal meeting tomorrow will finalise the regular agenda.
“India and Russia are pillars of stability in an uncertain world,” Modi told reporters. He described the visit as important to guide the relationship amid US sanctions and regional security threats.

Defense agreements (next batch of S-400, possible joint production of Su-57)
, Energy and trade (bilateral trade $7.68 billion in 2025-24),
Agreements in health, education and culture.
