The National e Governance Division of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, in partnership with the Ministry of External Affairs, has enabled Passport Verification Records on the DigiLocker platform, marking a major upgrade in citizen services under the Digital India initiative.
With this integration, individuals can now securely access, store, share, and verify their Passport Verification Records in digital form without depending on physical documents. Once verification is completed, the record will automatically appear in the Issued Documents section of the user’s DigiLocker account, accessible through both the web portal and mobile app.
The service is expected to simplify procedures associated with travel, employment, and compliance by reducing paperwork and speeding up verification. As the records are issued directly through government systems, they remain tamper proof, authentic, and fully secure within DigiLocker’s trusted infrastructure. Users can also share the record digitally with authorised entities, enabling instant consent based verification.
The initiative aligns with the government’s push for paperless governance and is likely to benefit millions of passport applicants by strengthening India’s digital public infrastructure and enhancing citizen centric service delivery.
