Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Amman to a ceremonial welcome, marking a rare full scale bilateral visit to Jordan after 37 years and coinciding with 75 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries. He was received at the airport by Jordan’s Prime Minister Dr Jafar Hassan.

Later, Prime Minister Modi met King Abdullah II at Al Husseiniya Palace, where both leaders reaffirmed the historic warmth of India Jordan ties. Discussions focused on expanding cooperation in trade, defence, renewable energy, digital technology, agriculture, health, tourism and people to people relations. India proposed raising bilateral trade to five billion dollars over five years and exploring linkage between Jordan’s digital payment system and India’s UPI.
King Abdullah II expressed strong support for India’s fight against terrorism, while both leaders stressed the need for peace and stability in the region. Several MoUs were finalised in areas including renewable energy, water management, digital public infrastructure and cultural cooperation, including a twinning arrangement between Petra and Ellora. The visit concluded with a state banquet, and King Abdullah II accepted Prime Minister Modi’s invitation to visit India.
