India’s civil aviation sector is set for expansion as the Ministry of Civil Aviation has granted No Objection Certificates to three new airlines Shankh Air, Al Hind Air and FlyExpress, formally clearing their entry into the domestic aviation market.
Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu recently met representatives of the proposed airlines and noted that Uttar Pradesh based Shankh Air, operated by Shankh Aviation, had secured its NOC earlier and is expected to begin operations in 2026. The airline plans to expand its fleet to around 20 to 25 aircraft over the next two to three years.
Al Hind Air and FlyExpress were also issued NOCs this week, marking a significant step towards increased competition and capacity in the sector.
At present, India has nine scheduled domestic airlines, with IndiGo and the Air India Group together controlling more than 90 percent of the market. The entry of new players is expected to gradually diversify the aviation landscape and enhance consumer choice.
