Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday announced that nearly 48 percent of households in Srinagar now have uninterrupted electricity following a successful trial of the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS).

According to the Chief Minister’s office, KPDCL has converted an additional 83 areas into 24-hour power zones, bringing the total to 108 areas benefiting around 1.25 lakh households. Similar upgrades are underway in other districts to ensure round-the-clock electricity supply.

CM Omar noted that complaints about power cuts are often due to overloading and that full 24/7 electricity will only be achievable once 100 percent metering is completed.

He added that adequate arrangements have been made to ensure better facilities during the winter season and highlighted that tourist activity is expected to increase after snowfall. The government continues to work toward making Jammu & Kashmir a year-round tourist destination.
