SKUAST-K rings in 2026 with ‘achiever of the year’ felicitations

Srinagar, Jan 1: Sher e Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir ushered in the New Year 2026 with a dignified ceremony celebrating the achievements of its scientists, students and staff, whose collective efforts have placed the institution among the top three state agricultural universities in the country.

Addressing the gathering, Vice Chancellor Prof Nazir Ahmad Ganai, while conferring Achiever of the Year awards, attributed the university’s steady rise to the unwavering dedication and hard work of its workforce. He highlighted the growth in externally funded projects, patents, innovations and startups, describing SKUAST K as a brand institution with a clear vision to evolve into a global transdisciplinary university, a strategic policy think tank and a catalyst for transforming Jammu and Kashmir into a model bioeconomy.

Registrar Prof Azmat Alam Khan presented an overview of the university’s major milestones over the past year, underlining its expanding role in promoting sustainable agriculture and economic development in the region.

The occasion also witnessed the release of the SKUAST K Calendar 2026, which the Vice Chancellor described as a visual narrative of the institution’s journey and aspirations. Alongside it, the December 2025 edition of Shalimar AgriTalk was unveiled, capturing key developments, success stories and the roadmap for the year ahead. In another significant initiative, the university launched 550 MSME skill programmes through an e platform to strengthen skill development and entrepreneurship among the youth of Jammu and Kashmir.

Awards were presented across a wide range of categories, including innovation, academic excellence, community outreach and human resource development, recognising faculty members, student entrepreneurs, research station and KVK heads, principal investigators of flagship projects and administrative staff for their contributions to the university ecosystem.

The programme concluded on an emotional note with a farewell to Joint Registrar Pervaiz Ahmad Bhat, who is due to superannuate next month. Vice Chancellor Prof Ganai lauded his long and distinguished service, acknowledging his role as a committed administrator who significantly strengthened the university’s governance. Senior officers, deans and directors of the university were present at the function.
