Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level meeting in New Delhi on Thursday to review the overall security situation in Jammu and Kashmir. The meeting directed the security agencies to continue counter-terrorism operations against terrorist structures and terror financing with full intensity in mission mode.
The meeting was attended by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Union Home Secretary, Director Intelligence Bureau, Chief Secretary, Director General of Police Jammu and Kashmir, CAPF chiefs and other senior officers. This was the first high-level meeting on security in Jammu and Kashmir chaired by Amit Shah in the year 2026.
Addressing the meeting, Amit Shah said that the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is committed to establishing lasting peace in Jammu and Kashmir and complete eradication of terrorism. Reiterating the zero tolerance policy against terrorism, he said that as a result of continuous and coordinated efforts, the entire ecosystem of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir has been severely weakened.
The Union Home Minister, while appreciating the performance of the security agencies, said that operations against terrorist networks and their financial support should continue without interruption in the form of missions. He directed all the agencies to remain vigilant with mutual coordination so that the gains made after the abrogation of Article 370 are maintained and the goal of a terror-free Jammu and Kashmir can be achieved at the earliest. He assured that all necessary resources will be provided for this purpose.
The meeting was held a few weeks before the 76th Republic Day celebrations across the country, while at the same time, security forces have intensified operations against terrorists in the hilly and remote areas of the Jammu region.
According to an official, in the meeting, senior officers were briefed on the integrated strategy to eliminate terrorists hiding in difficult and inaccessible areas, along with a detailed consideration of completely stopping infiltration along the Line of Control and the International Border.
During the last few months, there have been several clashes in the upper reaches of Kishtwar, Doda, Udhampur and other districts, while several infiltration attempts along the Line of Control and the International Border have been foiled during this period.
The meeting also discussed the current coordination between various security agencies, ground-level operations and maintaining the momentum, with the aim of making 2026 a decisive year for the complete eradication of terrorism from Jammu and Kashmir.
