Diu: Kashmir’s rising combat sports star Shahid Hilal created history at the ongoing Khelo India Beach Games 2026 by clinching the gold medal in the 60–65 kg weight category, bringing pride to the Valley on the national stage. Representing Silat Macan Kumbang, Ellahi Bagh Stadium, Srinagar, Shahid displayed exceptional skill, technique, and determination in the final bout.
The second edition of the Khelo India Beach Games is being held in the Union Territory of Diu from January 5 to January 11 and is being organised by the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu under the technical supervision of the Sports Authority of India and the concerned National Sports Federations.
Expressing his emotions after the victory, Shahid Hilal credited the India Pencak Silat Federation for providing him three months of international level coaching under renowned trainer Suhud Indratno, which significantly strengthened his technical abilities. He also acknowledged the vital role played by India’s Chief Coach Irfan Aziz, whose focused guidance and preparation proved crucial in securing the gold medal.
Calling the Khelo India Beach Games a memorable experience, Shahid said the rapid growth of Pencak Silat across India is encouraging and reflects the sport’s bright future. He dedicated his achievement to his family, especially his parents, stating that their constant support and sacrifices made this success possible.
Shahid Hilal’s gold medal victory marks a major milestone for Kashmir’s sporting community and highlights the steady rise of Pencak Silat as a competitive sport in India.
