Jammu, February 09: Jammu and Kashmir marked a significant push towards digital governance on Sunday as Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo launched the official website of the Department of Culture, aimed at widening public access to cultural information and services.
Developed as a comprehensive digital platform, the portal brings together details on the region’s cultural heritage, departmental activities, ongoing initiatives, and public services. The launch ceremony was attended by the Principal Secretary Culture, Secretary IT, Executive Director Mubarak Mandi Heritage Society, Secretary J and K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, along with other senior officers.
Accessible at culture.jk.gov.in, the website functions as a single online window for citizens, artists, scholars, and institutions, offering transparent and user friendly access to cultural resources and official information. Addressing the gathering, the Chief Secretary described the initiative as an important step under the Digital J and K framework, highlighting its role in using technology to preserve heritage, promote culture, and improve citizen engagement.
Principal Secretary Culture Brij Mohan Sharma said the portal will soon introduce online auditorium and hall booking facilities, enabling users to check availability and submit booking requests digitally. He noted that the feature is intended to enhance transparency, efficiency, and ease of access to cultural infrastructure across the Union Territory.
The website includes dedicated sections on the department’s profile, its divisions, legislation, projects, and both tangible and intangible cultural heritage. It also provides timely updates on events, orders, circulars, and official notifications. Rich digital galleries featuring monuments, festivals, performances, archaeological artefacts, sculptures, terracotta items, traditional jewellery, and other cultural assets showcase the diversity and vibrancy of Jammu and Kashmir’s heritage.
Reaffirming its vision, the Department of Culture said the platform reflects its commitment to safeguarding, promoting, and digitally documenting the cultural legacy of Jammu and Kashmir through modern, accessible, and transparent means.
