DIPR-JK Hosts Power-Packed Workshop on Ethical Journalism

The Directorate of Information and Public Relations, DIPR, Saturday organised a day long workshop on ‘Ethical Journalism and the Evolving Landscape of Journalism’ for media persons of Jammu at the Media Complex here, igniting intense discussions on credibility, responsibility and the future of news in the digital era.

The workshop aimed to sensitise media professionals and communication practitioners to the rapidly changing dynamics of journalism and to reinforce the critical importance of ethical standards in today’s fast paced digital age.

Regional Director IIMC Jammu, Dr. Dilip Kumar, and Assistant Professor Vishav served as the resource persons for the session. They enlightened participants about emerging trends in journalism, the growing threat of misinformation, and the sweeping influence of digital platforms on news consumption and dissemination. They spoke at length about journalistic ethics and underscored the pressing need for responsible reporting in the wake of rising use of AI and digital tools in journalism.

Speaking on the occasion, Director Information, Nitish Rajora, highlighted the immense responsibility shouldered by journalists in the present scenario. He stressed that the role of the media extends far beyond reporting facts and plays a decisive role in shaping informed, balanced and responsible public opinion.

“Journalists today operate in a fast paced environment where information travels instantly. This makes adherence to ethical principles such as accuracy, fairness, objectivity and accountability more important than ever,” he said.

He also underscored the urgent need for continuous capacity building to keep pace with technological advancements and evolving audience expectations.

The Director further emphasised the importance of sustained interaction between DIPR and media persons, adding that the department will make it a regular feature to organise get togethers for journalists to strengthen professional engagement.

In his welcome address, Joint Director Information hqr, Dr. Zahoor Ahmad Raina, spoke about the evolving role of the media in the present scenario and highlighted the importance of fairness and credibility in journalism.

Joint Director Information Jammu, Deepak Dubey, in his concluding remarks, emphasised the role of media persons in the rapidly evolving digital age. He stated that such workshops will continue in the coming times to strengthen collaboration between media institutions and government departments and to promote professional excellence, transparency and responsible journalism.

Deputy Director Information PR, Javid Ahmad Rather, Information Officer Alka Misra, along with other officers and officials of DIPR, were present on the occasion.

The workshop witnessed enthusiastic participation from media persons representing various national and local media organisations, marking a significant step toward reinforcing ethical journalism in a rapidly transforming media landscape.
