Srinagar, 18 Feb 2026: CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine concluded a three day Skill Development Program on Drug Discovery and Biomedical Research at its Srinagar branch under the CSIR Integrated Skill Initiatives. The hands on training focused on biological assays and in vivo mice experiments, bringing together early career researchers, laboratory professionals and students.
The program was led by Dr. Fayaz Malik, Chief Scientist, along with his research team. Participants received practical training in assay design, in vitro techniques, advanced biological assays, ELISA, enzymatic activity studies, dose response analysis and basic pharmacokinetic sampling. Sessions emphasized experimental design, data integrity, reproducibility and troubleshooting.
The final day covered ethical aspects of animal studies, including humane handling, dosing, sample collection and adherence to biosafety and animal welfare standards.
Dr. Zabeer Ahmed, Director, CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine and holding additional charge of CSIR-Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants, addressed participants virtually. He underlined the importance of assay validation, appropriate animal model selection and robust data management in strengthening drug discovery pipelines.
Er. Abdul Rahim, Head, IIIM Srinagar Branch and Chief Scientist, RMBD and IST, also spoke virtually, stressing standardized protocols, quality assurance and regulatory compliance in preclinical research.
Dr. Fayaz Malik thanked the faculty, technical staff and trainees for their active involvement. Dr. Reyaz Ul Hassan, Senior Principal Scientist, highlighted the value of careful experimental planning and documentation, while Dr. Muzamil Ahmad, Principal Scientist, shared practical guidance on data analysis and quality control.
The program was coordinated by Dr. Nasir ul Rasheed, Nodal Officer Skill Development, as part of CSIR’s broader initiative to promote industry relevant research skills.
