Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the India AI Impact Summit 2026 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. In his address, he said that the world’s largest and historic AI Summit is being held in India, which represents one-sixth of humanity.

He said that India has the world’s largest young population, vast tech talent and a rapidly growing digital ecosystem, where new technologies are not only created but also adopted at an unprecedented pace. Welcoming the world leaders and experts, he said that this summit is a source of pride not only for India but also for the Global South.

The Prime Minister said that artificial intelligence is a transformation like those major turning points in human history that changed the course of civilization. According to him, AI is not just making machines intelligent but is also increasing human capabilities manifold. However, he cautioned that the question is not what AI can do but in which direction humans take it. Without proper guidance, it can cause chaos, while in the right direction, it can be a solution to problems. He stressed that it is necessary to make AI human-centric and responsible.

Modi called the theme of the summit “Surojan Hitay, Sarojan Sukhay” – the welfare and happiness of all – the standard of India. He said that humans should not become mere data, so AI must be made democratic and accessible to all, especially for the Global South.

He presented India’s MANAV vision, according to which AI should be based on ethical principles, accountable governance, national sovereignty, inclusion and legitimacy. According to him, this vision will prove to be crucial for the well-being of humanity in the 21st century.

The Prime Minister said that AI will open doors to new jobs, innovation and industries in the future, therefore, skilling and re-skilling should be made a mass movement. Stressing the need for transparency, open code and global standardization, he said that authentication labels and watermarking on digital content are essential to combat deepfakes and fake content.

He said that India is building a robust system from semiconductors to quantum computing and secure data centers and a vibrant startup ecosystem are making it a global hub for affordable and secure AI solutions. He invited the world to design in India, deliver for the world and humanity.

The event was attended by French President Emmanuel Macron, UN Secretary General and several world leaders. The summit aims to harness AI for public good, inclusive development, and a secure future.
